Dhirkot is a town in Bagh District, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. It is located 25 kilometres from Kohala and 15 km from Chamankot, the gateway of Azad Kashmir, and 132 kilometres from Islamabad. Dhirkot is a popular tourist resort due to easy access, altitude (1676 meters) and landscape. Dhirkot is linked with all parts of Azad Kashmir by black top roads and direct transport services.The former prime minister of Azad Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum khan belongs to Ghazi Abad, the eastern village of Dhirkot. It is also well known for the active participation of its people in war against Dogra Raj during the independene of Azad Kashmir.
Sessar is a beautiful and famous village of Dhirkot. It is famous because of Dr. Sardar M.Hayat Khan (Late). He was the first Muslim doctor of state of Poonch (In Dogra raj). His Family is settled in Sessar & Muzaffarabad. Other famous personalities are SP.Sardar Maqbool Ahmed Khan(R),Sardar M. Maroof Khan(Late), DSP. Sardar Riaz Ahmed Khan,Sardar Mumtaz Ahmed Khan,Sardar Ashraf Khan (Late), Sardar Altaf Khan and Sardar Nazir Ahmed Khan. It is a beautiful village of Kandi. Basharat Abbasi Shaheed also belongs from this village. He was the first man from Azad Kashmir who embraced Shahadat in Indian Occupied Kahmir at Siri Nagar. |
