Trekking in Kashmir
 
  Neelum Valley  
 
Neelum Valley provides a variety of treks at varying altitudes durations, ranging from a day to a week via from Dowarian or Sharda to Ratti Gali with duration of 3 days, reaching a maximum altitude of 4140 meters and the trek can be extended to the Kagan Valley by crossing the Ratti Gali Pass. Near the pass one can see an ideal natural lake “ Ratti Gali Sar” at an altitude of 3832 meters. A challenging trek of a week’s duration is from kel to Astor via Shounter Gali, reaching a maximum altitude of 4260 meters.
 
  Amarnath Yatra  
 
One of the most popular and most famous destinations of trekking tourism in Kashmir is the trek to the holy cave of Amarnath. This trek is popular not only amongst the pilgrims, but also amongst those interested in trekking. The trek to Amarnath is completed in stages.
 
  Gulmarg  
 
Gulmarg offers some exciting treks to the tourists, especially in the northern Pir Panjal Range. Some of the popular treks from Gulmarg are:
Gulmarg - Alpather Lake, 13 km from Gulmarg
Gulmarg -
Ferozepur Nala - Danwas - Tejjan - Samaidan
Gulmarg - Tosamaidan
 
  Sonamarg  
 
The hill station of Sonamarg offers the trekking options to several mountain lakes namely Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangabal. Apart from this the other trekking options from Sonamarg in Kashmir Valley are:

  Thajiwas  
 
One of the most popular short walks from Sonamarg and a major attraction during the summer months is the 4-km route to Thajiwas, a small valley at the foot of the Sonamarg glacier. A path leads up to the Shakhdar hill, overlooking the glacier from the northeast. It is dangerous to climb the steep slope leading up to the glacier. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas glacier.
